FRANCISCAN FRIARS OF THE RENEWAL, EAGER FOR COMING MISSION IN NEWBURGH, NY
Friars look forward to new opportunities to live their mission of prayer, evangelization, and accompaniment of the poor, as planning and preparation are underway for their future service in the northern counties of the Archdiocese of New York
Upon the invitation of His Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, after a year of fruitful dialogue and discussion with Archdiocesan officials, have agreed to open a friary in Newburgh, New York, in the near future.
While details of their service and mission are still being worked out, the Friars have been asked to be particularly aware of the needs of the poor and immigrants in Newburgh, which is a part of the pastoral plan of the Archdiocese. They are looking forward to the new opportunity to live their charism of prayer and renewal and are grateful to Cardinal Dolan for the invitation. Fr. John Paul Ouellette, the Community Servant (Superior) of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, expressed his excitement and gratitude: “We are grateful for the invitation of Cardinal Dolan to expand our presence and ministry in the Archdiocese of New York. We look forward to the upcoming transition period of discernment and discussion on how we can best serve the needs of the Church and people in Newburgh.”
The timing of their arrival in Newburgh is still under consideration and will be announced at a later date.
